Okay, so some back story...

Five years ago me and @xoebus spent basically a whole Summer holiday making this website in Django.

It was eventually scrapped for some reason (I have no idea why, but IIRC it was something to do with a lack of mental health on my part).

A lot has changed in 5 years! But hey, if you want to take this and run with it, or even as a base of "what not to do" - go nuts!

There are tons of features! Get it running, make an account, make some forum posts / blog posts or whatever. I still have no idea what we were thinking at the time, but for such a small group there are a LOT of features and weird surprises.

I've tried to remove everything that doesn't work and modernise how all of the packages are installed - check out the README to get it up and running. I've also migrated the entire commit history from mercurial (which was cool at the time) to git, so you can watch what we did and learn from our mistakes on GitHub

We'd be totally flattered if you decide to maintain it and use it, and it'd be a great exercise as opposed to starting something from scratch. Of course, we'd totally understand if you didn't...

But think about it - where will your project be in 5 years?

Oli

Nostalgia overload.

Does this even boot anymore?

oliland commented 10 years ago

Yup - with some very minor tweaking! I haven't perfected a one line build but when you get all the dependencies everything works.

Sadly the disk that hosted Magnus seems to have failed - which I believe is where we both hosted the site and unfortunately kept the DB backups :'(

Oh wow, this is awesome! Yeah the latest website is Django, but just looking at the number of apps... wow!

Re Magnus, there is a recovered backup of it, so i may be able to get the database off of it! i'll prod Hayden some more to get it now!
