I found a change that makes load.corpus run much much faster (from ~a couple minutes to basically instantly on a 1000-text corpus on my computer). It seems this simple change was compatible with the code around it.

Hello! Apologies for being so super-slow with my reactions -- it's been a difficult semester. Thank you so much for these improvements; I'm quite impressed with the performance after the tweaks!
