Since 4.11.0-0, cannot install on RHEL or Oracle Linux systems with existing Anaconda-like installations #340

Solution to issue cannot be found in the documentation.

Issue

Likely related to #255.

I am working with some shared servers running Oracle Linux Server 7.9 x86_64. These are used by multiple people and have pre-existing installations of Anaconda / Miniconda. I am trying to install the latest Mambaforge for Linux on these systems, but have encountered the following error, starting with installer 4.11.0-0 and continuing with the latest as of this writing, 4.14.0-0.

The environment can't be solved, aborting the operation

I had to go all the way back to Mambaforge-4.10.3-10-Linux-x86_64.sh to get a working installer for such a configuration.

Something apparently changed between 4.10.3-10 and 4.11.0-0 where installation is broken in such an environment.

As mentioned in https://github.com/conda-forge/miniforge/issues/255#issuecomment-1129920642:

Something happened between v4.11.0-0 and v4.11.0-1 (as rishi-kulkarni suggested in https://github.com/conda-forge/miniforge/issues/255#issuecomment-1036606804).

Reverting to the last version that worked (https://github.com/conda-forge/miniforge/releases/download/4.11.0-0/Mambaforge-4.11.0-0-Linux-x86_64.sh) fixed the issue.

We get the same error with _Redhat RHEL v8.5 on x8664 ("nothing provides ncurses >=6.2,<6.3.0a0 needed by") when installing versions v4.11.0-1, v4.11.0-4 and v4.12.0-0.

Our setup has a global /etc/conda/.condarc (which among other things sets 'default_alias' globally), and everything worked fine with v4.11.0-0. The issue seemed to be affected by a mixture of 'default_alias', 'channels' and 'default-channels', but reverting back to v4.11.0-0 simply made the installation run as usual.

A reproducer with docker would help a lot in debugging this
