miniforge conda keeps giving "WARNING: A newer version of conda exists" #505

Solution to issue cannot be found in the documentation.

Issue

conda command from miniforge (installed by homebrew brew install miniforge on Apple Silicon Mac) keeps giving "WARNING: A newer version of conda exists" even though I executed update as instructed:

$ conda update -n base -c conda-forge conda
Collecting package metadata (current_repodata.json): done
Solving environment: done

==> WARNING: A newer version of conda exists. <==
  current version: 23.3.1
  latest version: 23.9.0

Please update conda by running

    $ conda update -n base -c conda-forge conda

Or to minimize the number of packages updated during conda update use

     conda install conda=23.9.0

# All requested packages already installed.

I noticed that from miniforge releases, the latest version actually 23.3.1, while conda from anaconda is 23.9.x.

Is this warning expected and should be ignored?

you can choose to follow the instructions it gives you to update.

Or you can ignore it.

I have the same issue. I constantly receive the following warning: ==> WARNING: A newer version of conda exists. <== current version: 23.11.0 latest version: 24.1.2

Please update conda by running

conda update -n base -c conda-forge conda

However, when I try to update using this exact command: (base) C:\Users\username>conda update -n base -c conda-forge conda Channels:

==> WARNING: A newer version of conda exists. <== current version: 23.11.0 latest version: 24.1.2

Please update conda by running

conda update -n base -c conda-forge conda

All requested packages already installed.

it may be that the latest conda is incompatible with a constraint you have.
