Can you provide the full output from running the installation command? What you shared said it "will retry with next repodata source", which is common and fine: it should still install successfully after that.
(base) cdiaz@jupyterlab:~$ conda config --prepend channels conda-forge
Warning: 'conda-forge' already in 'channels' list, moving to the top
(base) cdiaz@jupyterlab:~$ conda create -n onx --strict-channel-priority osmnx
Collecting package metadata (current_repodata.json): done
Solving environment: failed with repodata from current_repodata.json, will retry with next repodata source.
Collecting package metadata (repodata.json): | (base) cdiaz@jupyterlab:~$
As a workaround I just used pip to install the package and it's currently working.
For more information about the conda installation problem, I checked the dependencies of OSMnx and it seems geopandas is causing this problem.
FYI what you are trying to do, installing a conda-forge package in a base env with packages from defaults, is not supported. See https://conda-forge.org/docs/user/tipsandtricks.html
Solution to issue cannot be found in the documentation.
Issue
Following the instructions found in the installation documentation, I'm unable to install OSMnx as it returns the following error message:
Collecting package metadata (current_repodata.json): done
Solving environment: failed with repodata from current_repodata.json, will retry with next repodata source.
Collecting package metadata (repodata.json): \
After a while, the process stops and I'm able to execute commands again.
Upon further research, it seems another user has encountered this error reported here: https://github.com/gboeing/osmnx/issues/258
