I'm +1 to that but I'll leave the final decision to @zklaus who may wish to keep this going for a while longer. Not sure what are @zklaus' plans for pynio.
I'm +1 too. We have replaced our pynio usage with rasterio some time ago and a quick search didn't reveal any other dependencies.
How do we go about it?

I suggest to move forward with the archiving. Following the procedure linked to above, Here I ping @conda-forge/pynio and @conda-forge/core. In the discussion above, three out of the 7 maintainers already have expressed their support, but if anybody else wants to speak up against it, please do!
Comment:
PyNIO is being sunset and has not been maintained for years (last commit was > 4 years ago). Conda-forge builds have been failing and as far as I can tell, no one is interested in putting in the work to fix them. Can we mark this recipe as archived?
