This is derived from main, so merging it will probably require some force.

@jaimergp : the pre branch is now far enough from main that a merge is super painful. My suggestion is to rename this branch, create a new pre branch directly from main and then do my PR to release the beta of the new RDKit release against that new pre branch.

Does that sound ok to you?
