Hi Brian :) That's an ancient and likely broken version of wgrib2
. I suspect you can't have both in the same env due to the different jasper requirements.
Thanks.
Turns out I fixed the issue by changing the conda solver.
I was trying the libmamba-solver solver, and that gave me the broken wgrib2.
So I installed wgrib2 with
conda install -c conda-forge --solver=classic wgrib2
and now it works đ€·đ»ââïž
Yeah, wgrib
has no jasper requirement, but it hasn't been rebuilt in three years, trying that now

We may need to mark wgrib2=2.0.5=2
as broken. @blaylockbk, which one did you get in your second installation? the one that worked.
We've got a new wgrib=1.8.2 build enroute :) Looking more into this:
$ mamba create -n dev python=3.10 wgrib wgrib2
jasper 1.900.1 h07fcdf6_1006 conda-forge/linux-64 293kB
wgrib 1.8.1.2c h516909a_0 conda-forge/linux-64 161kB
wgrib2 2.0.7 hdd4d6b7_1000 conda-forge/linux-64 321kB
$ conda create -n dev --solver=classic python=3.10 wgrib wgrib2
jasper conda-forge/linux-64::jasper-2.0.33-ha77e612_0
wgrib conda-forge/linux-64::wgrib-1.8.1.2c-h516909a_0
wgrib2 conda-forge/linux-64::wgrib2-3.1.1-h126ae06_0
I don't believe this issue reproduces anymore with the newer wgrib 1.8.2 build now available on conda-forge. Please feel free to reopen if there is more to do here.
@ocefpaf, this was what was installed few days ago.
# Name Version Build Channel
wgrib 1.8.1.2c h516909a_0 conda-forge
wgrib2 3.1.1 h126ae06_0 conda-forge
I updated today and now have this đ
# Name Version Build Channel
wgrib 1.8.2 h0b41bf4_0 conda-forge
wgrib2 3.1.1 h126ae06_0 conda-forge
Thanks for the quick fix! All is working well.
Solution to issue cannot be found in the documentation.
Issue
I just installed both
wgrib
andwgrib2
in a conda environmentBut when I try to run the wgrib2 command, I get this error.
(I don't get any error when running wgrib).
Any tips on how to overcome this issue? Does it look like there is something wrong with my installation?
Thanks for any advice.
