It includes some useful bugfixes, including handling of namespaces: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AVRO-1663

Any of the bugfixes significant enough that we should change the README to recommend this version of avro-c? I don't suppose there are distro packages available yet?

I think right now it isn't too critical. I still want to get proper support for default values into Avro-C (which would allow us to fix #1); I'd say that when that is done, we can recommend using that version of Avro. Need to find the time to make that patch to Avro though.
