Per conversation with @gpeacock, make sure version is distinct and shows the commit.

I think the idea behind this was to always have a built copy available that we could test before publishing. But I don't think we need that unless we have someone testing those builds. Perhaps we should add this as an optional manual step so we can create a pre-published set of assets for testing only when we need them.
