"Who" for star #323

Open cranhandler opened 6 years ago

Consider Here There and Yonder, a 4 face 4.

The first move---I could feel comfortable calling it -gents star -gents grand chain

I originally started with 'star' but there was no way to mark 'gents only.'

Chain just modifies to 'across the set'---which actually works in this dance since the star is turned 2 places (halfway). But sometimes these stars/grand chains are turned 3 or 4 places.

I briefly considered calling it a gents allemande but I don't think it is legible.

Open to suggestions for this in the long term. I'm setting it up as a chain for this dance in the meantime.

Here There and Yonder 4 facing 4 by Jim Hemphill

A1 Gents Star left half way Swing your diagonal neighbor (that gal over yonder) end facing up & down the hall A2 Right left thru Ladies grand chain back to your partner B1 Corner do si do, face partner with a right hand Right left grand around the ring B2 Meet your partner, balance and swing

So if I understand you right, you want to add a 'who' to the star figure.

I feel like it's a round-peg square-hole problem, and will be for the forseeable.

So I have vague plans to sometime define different dance domains entirely, with some vague equivalence mapping between figures. But until that distant day comes, I think doing a good job on 4-face-4, ECD, and squares is beyond our reach. Otherwise we end up adding a bunch of context-insensitive clutter to menus and make the whole thing really surreal for contra.

I feel similarly. Was not asking for action, was just mentioning a stray hair that should be combed if we ever do square/4 face 4 support.
