It doesn't work well with Windows 8.1 #109

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install mactype
2. Set the smoothing techniques
3. Look at the Start screen & the Win Store apps.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The font should be smooth. But it doesn't change at all.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The 2013.1231.0 version, on Windows 8.1 x64 RTM

Please provide any additional information below.

I have 2 machines with Windows 7 and 1 with 8.1, making the exactly same steps
in the instalation on the 3 machines, seting up in Registry the change in the 2
win 7 is incredible, I love it. But in the machine with win 8.1 didnt work at
all, no change in the typography, not in the system, not in chrome, not in
office...

At Chrome it is working for me in Windows 8.1 Update 1. But in office it is not.

Its starting to fail all over the place now. I really do love Mactype, please
consider adding some donation for you to spend more time on it, fix all this
bugs and vastly improve it. I and many others here would gladly donate.

I would happily donate, but I am not finding huge issues. Works in a lot of
applications for me.

You do realise Mactype isn't designed to work with MUI right? MUI does a
slightly better job of fonts than Desktop anyway.

modern ui apps and any application which uses directwrite (firefox by default,
soon chrome by default, office, etc) aren't supposed to work with mactype

Please please come back to updating Mactype. So many users love this, but its
so out of date and in need of work. Your last message was from 2013, its a
year later now.

Some, if not most of us would be willing to donate.

Kind regards
Jonny

I'm afraid that making MacType work with the DirectWrite engine would be quite
an endeavour. :-/ As said in comment 5, I think that's behind this issue. GDI
is considered a legacy render by Microsoft today and they're moving away from
it. Google Chrome is too, by the way. They're about to introduce DirectWrite
there too.
