Not all duplicates found in the first run - multiple runs needed #4

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

I have removed the duplicates from a single address book file that
contained roughly 400 addresses, most of them duplicates, some even existed
more than two times.

Out of some reason, a single run of "Manage/Remove duplicates" did not seem
to be enough to remove all duplicates. Instead, I had to run it three times.

As I have already cleaned up the addressbook, I'm not able to reproduce the
problem anymore. Just creating an AB by putting in the same addresses two
times doesn't seem to do the trick.

Hi Olaf! Thanks for the report.

I agree that, as a requirement, the Add-On should definitely find all
duplicates in
one run.

I cannot currently explain why that wasn't the case for you.

Originally I wanted to post this as a separate issue, but after I tried to
reproduce
it, I think that this might be connected to this issue:

As mentioned before, a number of the entries existed more than two times,
sometimes
three or four times. Interestingly, during the run, I had to check these entries
several times (about 5-10 times) until the next entry was shown.

I guessed that DuplicateContacts could not handle entries that had more than two
occurences, but when I try to create a test case, I can't reproduce the problem.

Most probably this issue is connected to the issue above.

I have exactly the same problem. I'm not sure if it has to do with multiple
duplicates, as some duplicates are just not found at all in some runs. I'm just
running the duplicate search multiple times, and that works too.

I'm running version 0.5 on TB 1.5 on Linux (but I also got it using version 0.5
on
TB2.0 on Mac).

Love the plugin even with these minor fault. ;)

I have an 800-contact list, and it won't do more than 50 names at a time. It
says
it's complete, and I have to start over. The good news is that it actually
fixes the
contacts, but it's a pain running through the list over and over.

Contact Manager .6 on 2.0.0.14 on Mac.

This bug still exists in Contact Manager 0.0.6 on TBird 2.0.0.22

When Contact Manager quits before finding all duplicates, the error console
shows
message

Error: too much recursion

This add-on is WAY too slow and also ineffective for over 1,000 contacts. A new
version that is faster and handles more contacts is long overdue.

Same here. I have multiple diplicates in my 3000+ contacts list, and none is
detected. Windows 7, TB 31.1.1
