There is still room to remove redundant information, also in the parts I have edited. So this is still work in progress TBC.

This became a monster PR. The main ambition was trying to clarify some parts where I think the motivation was spread out over multiple sections, which lead me to some rewrites. At the same time I fixed some of the issues and changes proposed in the shepherd's review.
