Flip Banner #9

remove it? shrink it? ...at least switch to non-flash banner & update the pictures

...general idea is to reduce it in some way because it takes up a lot of space and pushes down the content. IMO, it is really nice while on a large screen (except for the fact that it's made with flash). Maybe we should just remove it on the mobile version of the site (using rules based on screen size).

What about the new banner we designed? On Dec 14, 2012 6:06 PM, "Sean Lang" notifications@github.com wrote:

Yeah, I really like the idea of combining navigation with the banner, but a lot of the feedback that i've been getting is that it's too big. I assume this issue only exists on mobile devices (where the content actually would be pushed too far down), so that should be the only place where it needs to be removed.

But I would still like to implement that navbar we designed eventually.

Its big even on a normal desktop. A regular banner would maybe be a fourth of the size. The actual content doesn't start till (at the extreme) 3/4 of the way down the page on some computers I've seen. We can get rid of maybe 1/3 to a half of that by removing the navigation portion, not even touching the banner height. So if we put our navigation into our current banner space, we'll be in good shape. (This doesn't even include mobile. We might want to look into some collapsible side menu options, like is currently established design pattern in Android apps.) On Dec 15, 2012 7:16 PM, "Sean Lang" notifications@github.com wrote:

what do you mean by "the navigation portion"... our navbar is just a thin bar that is on top of the banner... do you mean that orange part on top that our logo and search bar is in?

All of the stuff under the banner but over the content. On Dec 15, 2012 9:55 PM, "Sean Lang" notifications@github.com wrote:
