Not possible to register on www.bestpractices.dev #2119

Hello,

I would like to register on www.bestpractices.dev, but despite my best efforts I have not received a confirmation e-mail.

I have tried to register several times today and also tried various things such as turning off the VPN, turning on VPN, using a different e-mail address, long password, short password, real name with special characters and real name without special characters, but to no success. I do not receive any e-mails. I only get the New activation link created. Please check your email in a few minutes to activate your account. (There is some intentional delay to counter spam.) message.

My e-mail addresses with which I have tried to register register:

My names with which I tried to register:

Could someone take a look and maybe manually create an account for me?

Greetings Marek Küthe

Note: The German translation of the page refers to a non-existent e-mail address.

This one is a REAL mystery. I see no record of the attempt to create an account, for any of those names or emails. That makes NO sense at all.

Are you registering using /de , that is, https://www.bestpractices.dev/de as the prefix? That should be fine, but perhaps that's the bug.

In the meantime, I'll send you an email to force-register, but that shouldn't be necessary (obviously!).

@marek22k - I sent you an email (from my account). Please respond when you can.

marek22k commented 8 months ago

I should have answered that by now.

Yes, thank you, I got your email!

Thank you for your persistence & I'm sorry for the trouble!

Unfortunately, I fat-fingered my earlier search, which made it much harder for me to fix things. I accidentally tried to find email addresses by searching the name field. Unsurprisingly, that didn't work, & the confusing results left me confused :-). Once I searched for email addresses in the email field, I could at least fix the immediate problem.

I have activated your account: https://www.bestpractices.dev/en/users/32985 I've separately sent you log in informations via email from my work email account dwheeler (at) linuxfoundation (dot) org. Please follow those instructions as SOON as you can.

The bigger problem is why you didn't receive any emails. We had a problem like that earlier, but I believe that's resolved. I'll try to chase that down further on my end.

HOWEVER: I should note that your emails to me were ranked as basically 100% likelihood of being spam. That claim doesn't make sense to me. I've sent you details of what I received, in the hopes that we can figure that out. That might explain it, though at this point that's not clear.

I have elevated the general question about emails from the badge application of LF Information Technology under ticket IT-26599. We'll at least try to figure out what's going on, so we can fix it.

We had some email issues that we think are sorted. I've solved your specific problem. I'm going to close, please re-open if there's still a problem.
