@manishchugtu Can you provide an lsmod and lspci -vvv from the machine under Ubuntu or CoreOS?
Please find the outputs attached - lsmod is on the coreOS box while lspci -vvv is on the Ubuntu box (Same hardware), as lspci doesn't exist on coreOS.

@manishchugtuhttps://github.com/manishchugtu Can you provide an lsmod and lspci -vvv from the machine under Ubuntu or CoreOS?
— Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHubhttps://github.com/coreos/bugs/issues/59#issuecomment-47982462.
The hpsa driver seems to be properly binding to the device, so that's good.
Anyway to get the boot log from coreos? Putting it in a gist would probably be easier than cut-and-pasting it here if possible.
Sure, please do let me know what all logs are required by you and I would put them is gist.
Thnx
the output of 'journalctl -b' would be a great start.

What is up with all of the DMAR failures? That's not a good thing, and sounds like your IOMMU is "broken" somehow, which is causing problems. Is there some BIOS config option that you need to look at for that?
Also, is there a BIOS update for this hardware?
It can also be a strange interaction with kexec, similar to what I hit with UEFI on an Intel motherboard. Is this system initially booting via UEFI or BIOS? Note that if you don't know for sure you may need to determine this via the system's boot order or a serial console since most hints of UEFI don't survive the kexec iirc.
Were PXE/Networking booting CoreOS from a local DHCP/TFTP/PXEboot server. We see the same behavior on all HP DL380p Gen8 systems that we have tried (6). Two of the six servers were updated with 2014 HP Firmware updates as they had early 2013 versions by default. The same behavior is occurring on the systems with fresher Firmware updates as well. As Manish mentioned in an earlier posting, if we boot Ubuntu we do not see the odd behavior (flurry of DMAR/DRHD errors) and the local drives are detected.
UEFI can still do PXE booting, can you switch your bios to boot in "legacy mode" and not UEFI and see if that resolves the issue? There are some "odd" kexec bugs with brand new UEFI systems that I am seeing on hardware here that we are working to resolve in the next few months.
We don't use kexec when pxe booting so at least that is not a favor here.
The HP DL380p Gen 8 servers that we have are "Legacy Boot" only, they do not support UEFI. Per HP the DL580 Gen8's do support UEFI and DL380p Gen 9 support UEFI, but we don't have any of those servers on-hand
The latest ALPHA release seem to be detecting it fine now. Any idea what is the fix that got in.

It is hard to say since we never got a root cause on this; we could investigate but it would take some time. These sorts of fixes are the nice part about running the latest stable kernel though.
Closing this issue for now.
The following is the HP Smart Array controller details: Serial Number 001438026527990 Model HP Smart Array P420i Controller Firmware Version 4.68
This problem occurs with or without logical volume/array creation.
On the system after CoreOS boots: "hpsa" driver seems to be loaded but still not able to detect the disks. "sudo fdisk -l" shows nothing. No scsi devices in /dev too.
If I install Ubuntu on the same H/W, it works fine and is able to detect both the drives.
Thanks Manish C
