You can actually already check whether your phone is sending its signature by opening covid-lens.github.io on another device. If it shows more than one ID just move your phone further away or cover it with something and watch for a formerly strong signal decreasing in strength.
I'm not sure however if something similar could be implemented directly into CWA.

Yes I know this likely needs to be done by Google and Apple. You can talk to them, they won't even answer our emails.
Right know, we do not know if the app is reliably registering contacts.
Because there is no indicator whether the app currently sees any other user. The app needs to get an indicator that says "3 contacts currently in range" or similar. I understand there are some privacy objections to this. But without this indication, we do not know if the app and Bluetooth is working. Maybe there is some metal blocking the bluetooth signal. Maybe someone turned off bluetooth without realizing that this disables the app. When meeting with people, we need to be able to verify that the contact is registered by the app.
Otherwise it makes more sense to use a paper diary.
