ePMV Plugin does not work with Cinema4D R20.057 #13

Open cgboxer opened 5 years ago

cgboxer commented 5 years ago

The latest version of ePMV for Cinema4D R14, was still working in Cinema4D R17, R18 and even to some extend (some errors) in R19.

But, since major changes inside the maxon SDK for R20, the plugin is dead. Any chances to get an R20 version?

Thanks, cgboxer

Hi, as soons as I can get some freetime I may be able to get the plugin running for r20, probably a python version issue. Are you using Mac or Windows ?

cgboxer commented 5 years ago

Hello there, it is a Windows machine. (v10) I've tested a mix of 210+ old plugins in R20 and can confirm that mostly python plugins still work. So, .cob plugins are definitely not working any longer. In C4D R20 C.O.F.F.E.E. was removed! The C++ SDK comes with changed workflows and API. At least a recompile is needed and probably an adaption to the new API. Maxon extended the Python SDK by some features, but in general plugins should still work in most cases. Hope you'll find some time and the changes are not to big. Thanks!

Hi Ludovic! I'm happy cgboxer is also interested in this potential update to ePMV! I've been taking the time to learn python by going through the source code of ePMV, upy, and the mgltools in an attempt to see if I could diagnose the hiccup preventing ePMV from working in R20 myself. It is a bit slow going, but I'm still learning. I use both windows 10 and macOS high sierra. I've found that R20 does not load into the plugins menu on macOS, but does in win10, although most functions do not work. My goal is also to contribute to porting ePMV to houdini as well, but that is something I am still also just learning at the moment. ePMV is a really great tool, and I hope its adoption and use continues to grow. Thanks for all prior and potential future work to this project!

Sorry I don't answer that often, there is a R20 version of the plugin available on sourceforge, and I update the modules to be compatible as well. Tomorrow I should check if the current Mac installation is working. I have some preliminary working version of the plugin working in houdini, but it was a long time ago!
