Animal Directory must be emtpy

I've a running dokuwiki farm setup (based on vhosts) with 4 animals. For future I would like to use the farmer plugin. When I try to activate/configure the plugin I'm getting an error:

What is the recommended way to get it working?

Do the setup with an empty directory, then move your old animals into it.
