issues syncing with minimal block explorer

Acceptance Criteria: try to reproduce locally, update steps to reproduce locally, identify bug causing sync issue, have the explorer give metrics on Ethermint network.

-issues with connecting to https://expedition.dev/?network=mainnet -should be able to direct to localhost:8545

Steps to reproduce:

1. run ethermint
2. run https://github.com/etclabscore/expedition
3. direct expedition to ethermint running at localhost

Expected behavior: [What you expected to happen]

connect through rpc and display ethereum related info

Actual behavior: [What actually happened]

nothing is working
