I wanted to compare the landscape of image CDNS since there are currently more options in the field. I reviewed:
Cost and feature set were my top considerations. Of the list, ImageKit and Imgix filtered down to the finals.
Imagekit is free until a site reaches 25gb of bandwidth. For COSOLA-MACILE, this provide a considerable amount of leg room to grow. However, the next tier is $49/month. There's no room to grow in between free and paid. Previously, the free plan cost $18/month. Is it just a marketing plow to make you feel like you're getting value? Either way, it feels like a gimmick and doesn't leave a good impression of the company.
Gumlet has a similar pricing structure to Imgix, however, the documentation is not as well organized.
Imgix has one of the best pricing structures—$3/1000 images used (your library can have more) and 8 cents/gb—the catch is that you have to spend $10/min.
Most of the options are primarily focused on responsive images with limited extended feature manipulation. Cloudinary and Imgix are the most feature rich, extending image manipulation options from filters to advanced cropping.
Imgix is the most feature rich and has a better pricing structure.
@cosola I wrote up a brief summary of my research.
I spoke with @cosola and we've agreed to move forward with Imgix. CC will split the cost of image CDN with COSOLA.
