This is what I'm getting when I follow the git start instructions after installing... what's happening here?

Ok.. I kind of answered my own question.. I saw the comment about the carot symbol under devDependencies in package.json..

I have a quick follow up question:

Why would the carot symbol be there? What does that mean?

My last question:

attempting to follow the "git checkout" instructions leaves me with these errors:

The carot symbol means "use this version number or any version higher". It gets used if you want to support anything after a specific version. But that can be challenging at times when working with 3rd party libs because sometimes a new version comes out that affects your code. So usually it's best to "peg" it at a specific version for what you need for your app...using the version number without any special symbol in front of it.

For the checkout, you actually need to do git checkout -b 02-01b to checkout and create that branch locally (for each of the branches you switch to the first time). I had a Pull Request to update the README.md file that @AndrewWeb-Dev was gracious enough to create that I had never merged in (until now!). So the README.md now has the correct branch change info.
