Divide code into multiple files

As the code grows it´s getting progressively more cluttered and difficult to understand. It should be divided into multiple files in order to be more organized and comprehensible

That should be accompanied by a corresponding annotation in the development documentation. It could be a note in docs/CONTRIBUTING.md listing the files and their purposes.
