FP.1 sublineage with N:195S and ORF:8C (26 seqs as of 2023-05-19, Singapore) #1993

Description

Sublineage of: FP.1 Earliest sequence: 2023/04/05 (Singapore) Most recent sequence: 2023/05/03 (Singapore) Countries circulating: Singapore, 16 local cases and 2 cases with recent travel history from Malaysia (could be local as well)

Mutations on top of FP.1: T27134C > A28858C (N:R195S) > C9487T, A27917T (ORF8:8C)

A27917T changes the ORF8:8 stop codon (TGA) to a Cysteine (TGT), thus functionally restores the truncated ORF8. It'll be interesting to monitor if this restoration of ORF8 will confer any growth (dis)advantage over stock FP.1.
