Monday 11 January I received SMS from my internet provider that my monthly quota for mobile internet reached 75%.
(I used Google Maps for car navigating that day so assumed that was the cause).
Thursday 14 January I received other SMS's that my quota was reached and only 2,5h after I had 25€ extra to pay. (I was using a mapping app at the time, but this was unexpected as the vast majority of the data of that app can be used offline.)
After investigating the data usage back home, it showed that Coronalert used 1,7 GB (!) of background data for January.
While the previous months (October, November, December) this was never more than +/- 30 MB. Screenshots are attached.
The app is version 1.11.2 and was updated on 9 Jan 2021. I have Galaxy A3 (SM-A300FU) ; Android 6.0.1
What is this massive background data that is used?
Is this a bug in the new version?
There is a setting in Coronalert to use mobile networks for Downloads of random ID's. I set this now to use only Wifi. Will this setting avoid the large amount of 'background' data used?
