I am being a little glib here because @ryanpitts & I have done most of the work already.

We forked the NYT Library repo made one customization that allows us to inject meta tags into the head (well anything really)

And then added an entry to strings.yaml in the customization repo. The entry is a javascript function that takes a title and inserts a bunch of meta tags.

For some reason, twitter still doesn't like our titles on the individual subject pages, which i'm quite puzzled about because both facebook and slack do the right thing.

You can see this if you take any of the guide sections (say Taking care of ourselves and drop them into the twitter card validator

If anyone has suggestions let us know!
