Hello! I noticed a weird spike for confirmed cases for Turkey on 10 Dec 20: From 2020-12-09 -> 925342 to 2020-12-10 -> 1748567 Which I think is not correct, since other sources report ~30k new cases for that day. Could you further investigate this?
Hello @Inglezos, thanks for pointing this out. The spike seems to be due to asymptomatic cases. I see here that the Turkish ministry of health was not including asymptomatic cases in their counts. On 10 December they added all the asymptomatic cases since 29 July. Indeed, I can see the same spike reported from JHU CSSE and the repo we are pulling the data from. Which other sources are you looking at? Thanks!
Daily cases 800K? I supposed this was not normal. For example in worldometers.info: it shows a proper daily increase on that date. Nevertheless, in ourworldindata.org it has the same spike, so I guess this is correct due to sudden policy change as you mentioned.
Yes, definitely not normal. But you can double check at the link https://covid19.saglik.gov.tr/ They state (only in the Turkish version of the website):
Toplam Vaka Sayısı: PCR testi pozitif çıkan tüm kişilerin toplamı. 29 Temmuz tarihinden 10 Aralık tarihine kadar olan semptomsuz vakalar hasta sayılarına eklenerek güncelleme yapılmış ve kümülatif toplamı “Toplam Vaka Sayısı” olarak verilmiştir.
Hope this helps!
Yes thank you for the information!
