[x] Update docs: README.md, CONTRIBUTING.md
[x] Figure out how to phrase copyright notices, and revise them
[x] Update Author section in man page
[x] Remove old ftp release target
[x] Update RELEASE instructions
[x] Rewrite doco to minimize first person, and so "I" now refers to apjanke and not Tony Monroe
