The upcoming 0.8.0 release is the FINAL release series with Python 2 support. Any versions (apart from critical bugfixes) will no longer support Python 2.
More than 75% of people have upgraded their instances to use Python 3 and if you haven't done so already you should too. Writing code and testing this plugin to support both versions is not worth it anymore.
