Are there any online classes with live instruction that you would recommend?

Some learning institutions have a set of classes targeted for the USACO contests but very expensive, would you recommend that? or Should he just learn a language, then join some crash classes for practice exams before the contest?

https://joincpi.org/classes maybe. Idk how CPI classes compare to others though. I'm not aware of any crash courses; you can always use past USACO contests as practice.
