MPC-HC MKV Splitter (Subtitle Pin #1 is always displayed by default) #110

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Download or create MKV with more than one subtitle files embedded (ASS
format). This can be 8bit or 10bit file, no matter

2. Confirm via MKVToolnix (MKVmerge GUI), that one ASS file default track flag
is set to "no" and one to "yes" (see attached files)

3. Install and configure MPC-HC like required, than play the MKV file.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected: the playback with ASS file default track flag set to "yes"

Seen while playback: ASS file default track set to "no"!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

OS: Win7 SP1 x86

xy-VSFilter: 3.0.0.63

MPC-HC: 1.6.2.4902

MPC-HC is configured, no other codecs/codec packs are installed.

Workaround: Make sure while muxing via MKVToolnix (MKVmerge GUI) that only one
ASS file is in MKV embedded...

Since the MPC-HC MKV splitter doesn't support stream switching, it's outputting
two subtitle pins. In your case, subtitle pin #1 was the non-default track, and
subtitle pin #2 was the default track because of the order you muxed them.
xy-VSFilter is doing what's expected and displaying Subtitle Pin #1, but the
MPC-HC splitter seems to expect the track to be chosen based on name. The same
thing happens with MPC-HC VSFilter 2.41. You can workaround this MPC-HC
splitter issue by always placing your default subtitle track above non-default
tracks while muxing.

I'm unsure if we should fix this or not. I'll open a ticket on the MPC-HC bug
tracker and see what they say. It seems like it'd be better if MPC-HC MKV
Splitter would automatically reorder the tracks based on Forced/Default status.

I'd highly recommend installing Haali Media Splitter (attached) and disabling
the inferior MPC-HC MKV splitter.
