It is a shitty emacs clone and it has caused too much other code to 
special-case codepaths depending on if the user is a bad person who runs 
everything from acme

oh, I didn't know userspace had to spacial-case stuff for acme. why is that? 
couldn't it be fixed?

The reasons for the special-casing are described in this bug report's subject 
line, and the fix is described in the original bug report description.

it's fine in p9p. it does not fit plan 9 well.

having said that, i have no idea how i'd organize my life without it, just yet. 
i suppose the next best thing would be oberon in aos form, but i'm reluctant to 
learn a new system, especially if it's much less well-designed than plan 9. of 
course, none of this stops me keeping the acme sources or even binaries.
