Limited asset folders display [3.x]:

What happened?

Description

Following the update to 3.7 when selecting an asset for a field in an entry we are unable to view all folders, as the list is truncated.

The structure of our asset folders is categories > A-Z list > letter > folders for each entity > folders for entity's events.

I had previously believed our issue was purely annoyance that it now took longer to find the folders we were looking for, but have now realised that the lists of folders are truncated meaning we are unable to find the assets to use.

Steps to reproduce

Create entry
Attempt to locate asset to add to field

Expected behavior

Create entry
Successfully locate asset

Actual behavior

Create entry
Unable to find asset via folder location

7.4.3

Operating system and version

Linux 5.4.0-144-generic

Database type and version

MySQL 8.0.32

Are you on Craft 3.7 or 3.8.5?

Craft 3.8 changed the approach to volume subfolders: https://craftcms.com/blog/rethinking-volume-subfolders. If you’re on 3.8.5, then when you try to add an asset to, e.g. an entry via the assets field, the folders will show at the top of the list in the modal.

I’m not sure I understand the problem correctly, though, so please let me know if the above doesn't help.

3.8.5 - I see that, but what is happening is that not all the folders are displaying, it is not displaying all the folders.

Essentially, I have one crucial issue which is that I cannot access all folders - the screengrab I showed was me looking for the folder titled 'Biig Piig' (a musician!) but only a limited number of folders were displayed before some assets were shown.

Then a secondary one - less urgent, although one I still need to rectify somehow - which is that this manner of displaying folders and assets - even if looking for one of the folders which IS displayed - takes multiple times the amount of time to locate a folder and then asset versus the previous way.

This is fixed for the next Craft 3 and 4 releases, via #13008.
