Unable to use predict, this error shows up

Error in x[, j] != rep(protos[i, j], nrows) : 
  comparison of these types is not implemented
In addition: Warning message:
In FUN(X[[i]], ...) :
  Incompatible methods ("Ops.data.frame", "Ops.factor") for "!="
