1.1.0 fixes #71

I discovered two issues with the 1.1.0 release this morning when trying to upgrade crate-admin to use this version of the common build. this PR fixes both issues. please see the commit messages for more info

So, we should not rename the directory docs to demo-docs? Currently, CI breaks because it will still use demo-docs.
