Merge this feature into the dev branch. A release to master will not be appropriate until the protocol (both internal and over the wire) is updated such that the world item position updates are fast and don't cause horrible problems.

See #171 for original PR.

Actaully. Dev is dev. We can do a review when merging from Dev to Master.
