[Bug] Check to ensure email can be sent from CCGN site #437

Closed xolotl closed 2 years ago

Description

It's not clear that emails are being sent from https://network.creativecommons.org and maybe also sometimes not from https://login.creativecommons.org.

I'm looking for ways to check that SMTP or whatever mechanism is in use is actually functioning on these sites.

https://network.creativecommons.org

  1. I don't see a way to test if emails are being sent, but we are getting reports that network members are not getting emails about actions to take or taken in the CCGN application process.
  2. I see in logs that some emails are being reported as sent: https://network.creativecommons.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=global-network-email-log. I'm not sure if the logs truly represent emails sent. I don't see a way to look further into logs.

In an attempt to test the CCGN system by registering a new user to put them through the membership process I found that I wasn't able to get an email when registering a new user via https://login.creativecommons.org.

https://login.creativecommons.org

  1. I do get an email when using the password capability: https://login.creativecommons.org/pass.php
  2. I do not get an email when using the register capability: https://login.creativecommons.org/register.php

Expectation

Activities on these websites that should send emails do in fact send emails.

Environment

I don't think this is a client environment dependent.

@TimidRobot stand down. An opportunity came to confirm that emails are going out. A recent event showed up in that CCGN email log view and the recipients have confirmed that the emails were received. Sorry for what may have been a false alarm.
