Thanks @cristomathew, it seems the ticket description may not have been clear. You're describing five providers of online monetization, e.g. through advertising, which isn't quite what we were after. I've updated the ticket, and encourage you to submit another response.

https://www.cinnamon.video : Cinnamon is a platform for video creators and their fans. This platform allows content creators to be paid or rewarded for every second viewed. The website uses a coil technology. With a $5 coil subscription, subscribers can enjoy contents that are free of ads without wasting their times. The content creators open an account with Coil and then upload or share their contents on the cinnamon website then they get rewarded for every second their content is watched. To monetize every second of content watched, the website implements a Web Monetization Provider. This Web Monetization Providers use Interledger Protocol to redistribute funds based on the amount of time you spend on different content. The website uses Coil as the monetization provider. A subscriber makes a $5 subscription and it’s distributed among the Content Creators you follow. Apart from the complete lack of platform generated ads, this platform also thrives on the content creator's happiness. The platform was created to help Content Creators better pursue their careers, by monetizing their content more than any other platform out there. The coil subscription is flat and allow users to support creators. This would allow users to watch fewer ads on the platform and also unlock additional features and content. With an open API it is possible to pay for websites in real-time and reward users that have web monetization enabled. This creates a self-sustaining economy. Coil was founded by Stefan Thomas, who developed the Interledger Protocol. Using micropayments, content creators can get paid for their work. Coil is also supported by Xpring and it focuses on building XRP-related projects. XRP is a great choice for monetizing web content because transactions are fast and very cheap. The XRP Ledger is used to process XRP transactions and allow individuals to transact value in an easy way. Cinnamon video streaming platform helps content creators monetize their content with XRP. Coil focuses on refactoring the web economy and monetizing content for content creators on the web via micropayments. Like Wietse Wind’s XRPL [XRP Labs], Coil is also supported by Xpring as it focuses on building XRP centric projects. XRP’s 4-second settlement time on the XRPL makes it perfect for monetizing content on the web. Cinnamon Video is the first video streaming platform where content creators are paid directly by their viewers. Cinnamon spices things up over YouTube by giving content viewers the chance to reward creators, through online micropayments.

https://ebonus.gg : This is a renowned publisher site that allows its clients to earn up to 200 VRA rewards on a daily basis. The Verasity ecosystem allows broadcasters, publishers, video content creators, viewers, advertisers, and brands to maintain contact with each other on a direct basis. All the payments in the Verasity ecosystem are carried upon in a cryptographically secured digital utility payment coin named VRA. The transactions being carried upon the blockchain network are supported by VRA, which assures the customers of security, efficiency, and high speed. As it uses blockchain, the platform runs without a need for intermediaries. Verasity helps the users to stake their VRA assets to earn daily rewards. The simple conversion method followed by the platform allows users to buy and exchange VRA at their convenience. The revenue pooled in from the advertisements is used to buy back VRA from the exchanges. The publishers buy VRA from exchanges to collect funds for their projects. Verasity allows content creators and advertisers to create and manage their own rewards programs, unlike third-party video sharing sites or browser applications. Using those from Verasity’s software development kits (SDK), publishers are free to choose what content they want to monetize and then reward their viewers with VRA / VRAB tokens; every time they choose to watch a video or an ad. VRA is a token used as a medium of exchange exclusively for the economy of online video. VRA transactions occur through the blockchain from Vera Wallet, available from the video player on any participating website. The wallet and token are designed taking into account the convenience of the user, which facilitates its use in mass markets. There is nothing to download, all transactions are stored in the blockchain. The process of using the Verasity application is closed cycle. Publishers buy VRA from exchanges to finance their campaigns; viewers enjoy more content and get VRA. Then, viewers see the ads to get more VRA, which allows publishers to get VRA and spend it on creating more content. Viewers can donate VRA to their favorite content creators, spend them on goods and services, as well as sell them for BTC or ETH.

https://www.stedas.hr: This website monetize their app using Coil. They allow their readers to support the website by donating XRP. The readers can send a tip to the website via XRP Tip Bot. XRP Tip Bot allows Reddit and Twitter users to send Ripple XRP to each other through reddit comments or Tweets by logging in with their Twitter account. Readers on the website can also send a tip using XRP Tip Bot app by scanning the QR code on the website. They can also send a tip by using the BTC or ETH or XRP addresses on the website. XRP and the XRP Ledger are used to power innovative technology across the payments space. RippleNet customers can use XRP for sourcing liquidity in cross-border transactions, instead of pre-funding—ensuring instant settlement, lower exchange fees and more efficient use of working capital. This same technology is also leveraged in use cases for micropayments, e-commerce, exchanges and peer-to-peer services. XRP and the XRP Ledger are open-source technology that anyone can build on.

https://flood.enclavegames.com : This website allows HTML5 Game Developers to put their games on this website and people come to play. When someone registers on Coil.com and pays a 5 USD a month subscription fee, and then uses Puma Browser or Firefox / Chrome with the extension, they become an active subscriber after that. When the subscriber visits a game on the https://flood.enclavegames.com website, Coil pays the developer or owner of the game money. For a Developer to collect their money then you need a wallet. This wallet address is your unique payment pointer, and this pointer is exactly what the monetization Meta tag contains. Now we have it all: monetization Meta tag enables the content to be paid for by Coil when their subscriber visits it (using Puma Browser or one with the extension), XRP Tip Bot offers the wallet, and Coil gives the platform for everything to work. Coil makes it easy for you. When you register, from the Creator Settings in your account you can select either USD or XRP as the currency you will be paid in. Choosing USD will ask for your Stronghold account. Choosing XRP will take you to XRP Tip Bot, where you can create your wallet. If you have already created your Coil account you will be logged in automatically and the wallet will be created for you. Every time someone plays your game, the funds will be streamed immediately, directly to you. No SDK implementations to make it work, no ads ruining the gameplay, no paywalls blocking the content, no months of waiting for the payment from the publisher. Only you, your game, and the money you get. You create your game the way you wanted to, and only then you add some extra features on top of it for subscribers. Be it some extra points, unique weapon, secret level, etc.

https://www.blogmarketingacademy.com : Blog marketing Academy is a blog that creates awesome contents and monetize their blog using Brave payments by earning through their uphold wallet when readers visits their website. Readers or users can also tip the website through BAT tokens. Brave is a web browser. One that respects your privacy and puts you in control of the tracking that websites are able to do on you. As an end user, you would have BAT in your wallet. Then, you have the option to reward those publishers who you want to support and who you pay attention to. Soon, you will also earn BAT by viewing ads. This technology is the one that rewards publishers who do a good job because you are paying attention to them. One that rewards users for viewing advertising. But, all of it is in YOUR control. If you don’t want to look at ads or pay any publishers, that’s your call. And nowhere in the transaction is your personal data exposed. Basic Attention Token is a way out. It removes the middlemen and puts YOU in control of your own “attention dollars”. As a publisher, you need to register on Brave payments network, this will allow you to accept funds into your wallet which is tied to your site’s domain. You will need to enter your email address. Once you are in, you will add channel so that you can add your blog. You can add a website, a YouTube channel or a Twitch channel. Which means you can earn BAT from both your blog and your YouTube channel at the same time. After you have verified that you are the owner of the website, then using an FTP program of your choice, create a folder in the top-level directory of your website. You could also use File Manager of your web host, then Upload the TXT file into the folder created then verify. After verification, you then need to create a wallet on Uphold, this wallet will be so that you can actually accept payments from other Brave users. Uphold is basically a big currency exchange. You can take in money in one currency and transform it to another currency. This includes various crypto currencies as well as government currencies. Once you have enrolled in Uphold and verified your account, you can hook it up to your Brave Payments account. You will also be able to choose which currency you want to be paid in. As an end user, soon you will be able to earn BAT by viewing and interacting with ads from the Brave network. The way it will work is that the browser itself will control what ads you see so that you remain in full control. Neither publishers nor advertisers will get your information nor there a ton of tracking cookies involved. As you interact/view these ads, you will get paid BAT. In turn, you can then reward publishers based on who you want to support or who you pay attention to. Brave and the Basic Attention Token represents an entirely new infrastructure to the economics of attention online. It removes the natural war between end users and advertisers and it puts the end user fully in control of the transaction. It will also be good for publishers because no longer will there be a need to satisfy monopolistic middlemen, risk being de-platformed, or feeling the pressure to pack your site with embarrassing and overbearing ads. Even though Brave has a lot of growth ahead for it, but it is a very good technology for website monetization. A web monetization technology which isn’t controlled by big middlemen like Google and Facebook? The end user in control of what companies can track and what ads they see? This technology is arguably a very good one for website monetization.

Five sites that use Web Monetization

TiffanyHayden.blog provides quality information to finance industries and professionals to help them understand Blockchain technology in simple terms. How she makes use of web monetization: Tiffany makes use of Coil which is a web monetization provider that uses the Interledger protocol for micropayments. All she had to do was add a few lines of code-also referred to as the “Web Monetization Meta Tag” to her blog to allow the website to get monetized with Coil. The Technology she makes use of, Coil uses a monetization model that offers an alternative to the status quo of paid advertisements, thereby selling the public attention to the highest bidders. Coil offers a new way for content providers(websites, bloggers, YouTubers, and users) to monetize content in a way that doesn’t involve provoking ads mixing up with content. Coil, similar to how Medium works, is a platform where a person can share articles (or web monetized links) and offers a monthly fee for viewing articles to content creators, just like premium medium writers. In exchange for payments from the user, websites can provide the user with a "premium" experience, such as allowing access to exclusive content, removing advertising, or even removing the need to log in to access content or services. Tiffany uses a wallet/payment pointer called the XRP Tip Bot - This is a bot that enables users on Reddit, Twitter, and Discord to send Ripple XRP to each other through Reddit comments/tweets. HowTiffanyHayden provides additional value to web monetization subscribers versus other users: As a subscriber to Coil, Users pay a monthly subscription ($5). Coil then gives out a stream of very small payments (e.g. fractions of a cent) from a user to the creator in real-time. For now, TiffanyHayden doesn’t offer users any special services.

2) CSS-Tricks is a website that provides tips and articles on building websites and all that entails, mostly from a front-end perspective. This website has articles covering the basic classes for building websites with diverse authors and topics. So it is very likely a user/visitor would want to tip the publisher.

CSS Tricks uses Coil as its web monetization provider. This allows the website to get tips from Readers who have an active Coil subscription and are using the Coil browser extension. Coil sends micropayments to the CssTricks wallet in real-time when a web-monetized user visits the site.

3) Stedas.hr is a blog authored by Dario Suveljak and has one of the best collections of useful infographics on Ripple and XRP (over 100 infographics, graphs, quotes, and guides). On his blog and on twitter, he promotes useful tips and creates awareness of digital currency XRP (Ripple).

How he uses web monetization: Stedas makes use of a web monetization wallet known as XRP TipBot to receive tips from visitors to his blog. So, when a user is subscribed to coil or any of the web monetization wallets like XRP Tipbot, he gets access to all articles, and can also buy XRP Community Poster-which is a poster with display photos of the XRP/Ripple community.

The technology he makes use of- Stedas uses the XRP Tipbot which is a web monetization wallet for receiving tips from users/visitors that use the wallet. Every user that has an XRP TipBot wallet just needs to send a tip via the app or on the website interface and the tip is sent in real-time. He also receives tips from tweebs when he makes a tweet that interests users.

4) Puma browser is a privacy-focused web browser with a new way to pay for content and services without ads and tracking. Puma browser is available both on android and iOS and allows users to stream funds to content creators with the micropayment built-in feature without having to give a fret about it. Puma Browser aims to align with its users to provide a service without the disruptive advertisements and tracking that conventional browsers are notorious for. Which technology they make use of: The company partnered with Coil.com, which is a web monetization provider that allows users to sign up for a $5 monthly subscription and gives them the ability to stream up to $5 worth of micropayments. Currently, this seems to be their only means of payment.

To provide additional value to web subscribers, Puma unlike other dominant native browsers as google chrome focuses on empowering the user, cutting back on infringement of privacy and from invasive data collection. This means for a gamer, all he needs to do is subscribe using coil and he gets to play his favorite games without any interruption from the browser or advertisements.

5) OnThChain is a website that promotes everything cryptocurrency-related. Ranges from podcasts to youtube videos, newsletters and even a cinnamon channel where they share tips and encourage people to join the cryptocurrency community.

OnTheChain uses the XRP TipBots wallet to receive bits of streaming payments from subscribers.

Aside from making videos and tips open to subscribers and of course without tapping into users' data and popping up ads, onthechain have no special offers for users for now.

  1. https://www.cinnamon.video/ - This website makes you upload video content for free and charges you to view the content . It is a platform that helps the content creators monetize their work.To monetize evey second of content watched, their model implements a Web Monetization Provider. Web monetization providers use Interledger protocol to redistribute funds based on the amount of time you spend on different content. As of now, Coil is the only web monetization provider in the market. with the help of it, your $5 subscription is distributed among the creators you follow. In order to get paid as a content creator, firstly you need to register with coil and set up a payment pointer. With your coil account you can 'Sign In' to cinnamon and upload content. The moment someone watches your video you immediately begin to receive your eranings. The money goes directly into the wallet of your choice. This site , with the help of coil is designed in such a way that is requires no browser extensions to work properly.

    1. https://tiffanyhayden.blog/ -This website's owner is an independant advisor. He helps professionals and organizations in the finance industry understand Blockchain technology in simple terms. Whether in a private setting or a group workshop, he shares his knowledge to help others understand these complex topics. By adding a few lines of code , his site is web monetized with coil , allowing him to get paid for every web monetization enabled visitor. Coil offers a new way for content providers (websites, bloggers, YouTubers, etc) to monetize; a way that doesn't involve annoying ads cluttering your content. Users who want to send micro donations to content creators can now do so with Coil, paying a monthly subscription ($5). When they visit a supported website, Coil pays out a fixed amount per second, that goes directly to the creator in real-time. Coil uses an open API called Web Monetization in order to pay sites in real-time. This way, sites can securely provide rewards to any users who have Web Monetization enabled, creating a self-sustaining economy. Coil uses the Interledger protocol for micropayments, which is currency agnostic. Send, receive, and monetize anything in any currency. Web Monetization is a new W3C standard for how browsers can pay websites using Interledger. XRP + Payment Channels + Interledger = trillions of transactions per second, for a fraction of a penny, without any central authority. In order to receive payments via Interledger, a Payment Pointer is needed. XRP community members on Twitter are in luck! The simplest way to get a Payment Pointer is through the XRP Tip Bot, which allows logging in through Twitter, Reddit, or Discord.
  2. https://simmer.io/ - SIMMER.io is a site for Indie game developers to host their creations in the browser for free. The site has been accepting developer uploads since 2017, and has an audience of nearly 7,000 developers who have posted over 5000 games as of this writing. It's a grassroots operation and has taken no outside funding. SIMMER.io is the first game portal website to provide a simple UI to for game developers to include the Web Monetization API, a proposed W3C standard. While web monetization is easy to implement for web developers, it takes a little more thought for folks not familiar with web technologies, like game developers. they've provided a simple UI for injecting a monetization pointer into developer games without them needing to fiddle with HTML and Javascript. Simmer presently offers a distraction free mode to web monetization subscribers and plan to offer in-game reward or currency to such subscribers in the future.

  3. https://css-tricks.com/ -These days CSS-Tricks is really about building websites and all that entails, mostly from a front-end perspective. They have staff writers (see below) and loads of guest authors, so the content you find there will be as diverse as they are. They have web monetized their website using coil. Coil is nicely designed. It's the service that readers actually subscribe to and a browser extension (for Chrome and Firefox) that pays publishers. The money ends up in a Stronghold account. Everything is anonymous. The owners don't have access to, know anything about, or store anything from the users who end up supporting the site with these micropayments. Even though everyone is anonymous, they can still do things for the supporters, like not show ads. Subscribers pay a flat fee every month , creators web monetize their content. Coil sends micro payments to creators for every second subscribers enjoy their content.

  4. https://js13kgames.com/entries/back-2-back -Back2Back is an arcade strategy game, which delivers a full range of action experience, fusing a classic defense gameplay with action based tactics. Thanks everyone for your contributions.

If you see a thumbs up on your post, that means it's on the right track. If you see a confused face, you're either not on the right rack, you've copied and pasted directly from elsewhere on the web, or you've remixed the answers of other folks in this ticket. While we love remix here at CC, for the purposes of this contribution we want to see what you have to say, and how you evaluate the value being given to users by the services you've listed using Web Monetization.

I invite anyone without a thumbs up to rework their response and let me know, for review. I'm looking forward to seeing project proposals.

Separately @Saank I'd love to see the exact link on Wikipedia you found that is using Coil. The Coil extension did not indicate that Wikipedia was monetized when I looked into it. Just curious to see that live!

1. Hackernoon.com

Description Hackernoon is a tech blog who prides itself with in-depth stories from the first-person perspective from the best tech professionals. Hacker Noon delivers an independent tech blog with honest and unfettered stories and opinions written by real tech professionals, with 7,000+ contributing writers, 200,000+ daily visitors and 8,000,000+ monthly pageviews. The difference between them and other random tech blogs is the fact that they don't use clickbait headlines and same old recycled arguments. Other sites, even credible ones, offer unremarkable second-hand accounts. Assuming you want to read the latest undiluted Facebook privacy scandal or the cover-ups of a major tech company, Hacker Noon is your best shot. They started in 2016 on Medium and have become so big since then that even Medium made an offer to buy them but the offer was rejected.

Technology Hacker Noon uses Coil and other company sponsors to monetize their contents.

Added Value The website is purely web monetized and I'm impressed with the fact that they don't believe in advertisers. They instead use web monetization channels like Coil and also sponsors. They believe sponsorship is not evil if done right. They believe what's evil is surveillance, data mining and alteration. The reason why they use sponsors is that they are long-term and they don't distract the readers from the reason why they are there. According to their website FAQs, without sponsors, they can't make the site free for readers forever. They care about reading quality and will never take that experience away from the readers.

2. Livecoinwatch.com

Description Live Coin Watch is a complete Cryptocurrency market coverage with live coin prices, charts and crypto market cap featuring 2762 coins on 182 exchanges. They are the Fastest live cryptocurrency price & portfolio tracker with historical charts, latest coin markets from crypto exchanges, volume, liquidity and order books. They are ranked by the market capitalization of a cryptocurrency, which is calculated by multiplying its volume-weighted average price by its circulating supply. A coin/token must be trading on 2 exchanges and 3 markets to be ranked. They provide analysis and news about the Cryptocurrency market too.

Technology Live Coin Watch uses Coil to monetize their contents.

Added Value As with some other websites that use Coil as a web monetization, they also generate ads from other advertisers to supplement their revenue to keep the site active. It's a website that runs on real-time tracking of cryptocurrency, they tend to use a lot of cloud storage and having a downtime might be disastrous for their users who rely on them for trading and real-time updates. I assume that's the reason they have to rely on other advertisers cos the donations might not be enough to keep the website running.

3. Snotr.com

Description Snotr is a great family-safe website where short and funny or interesting videos from all over the Internet are uploaded. It's like a youtube for short videos. Every website user can submit a video by uploading the video or submitting a link to the video, which will be reviewed by the moderators. The video will pass through a voting system for it to be listed on the front page and other pages. Users can then rate the videos and post comments to share their opinion with others.

Technology Snotr uses Coil to monetize their contents.

Added Value Even though it's web monetized, the site still using google ads service which brings the question as to whether a site can be fully web monetized and still use other ads generation avenue to bring in revenue. Though the ads are really limited compare to other website using Google ads.

4. Kilianvalkhof.com

Description Kilian Valkhof is a front-end developer and user-experience designer. He develops tools and web applications and has a blog to write all about those amazing stuff. He is part of the Electron governance team. He is the creator of Polypane - a dev tool browser showing multiple screen dimensions that can be used for responsive web development and design.

Technology Kilian Valkhof uses Coil to monetize his contents and receive donations from his web visitors.

Added Value Coil uses an ad-free based content and user data is not mined, altered for retargeting by ads companies. The privacy of the user is also protected since they don't have to sign up to read his contents. All the web pages are web monetised and he is not offering premium contents to a section of his website. Basically, he is relying on donations from web visitors.

5. Jsbin.com

Description JS Bin is an opensource tool for experimenting with web languages. In particular HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but JS Bin also supports other languages too (like Markdown, Jade and Sass). JS Bin is ultimately a code-sharing site. Along with the code, the complete output of the code is also shared with other developers, colleagues and/or students. As you type into one of the editor panels, you and anyone watching your bin will see the output being generated in real-time in the output panel. You can share your code with anyone to see your work or help you improve on it.

Technology Live Coin Watch uses Coil and donations from opencollective to monetize their contents.

Added Value JS Bin is basically running on donations from its users since it's free and open-source software. No added value for the basic user, although there is a pro-feature which comes with paying a monthly subscription fee. The main purpose of the website is totally free. In a way, I feel the pro subscription is more or less donating for the running of the website. Other than that, there are no ads running on the website.

2.WIKIPEDIA-

Website Description- Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia, created and edited by volunteers around the world and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation.

Technology used- Coil facilitates the monetization of Wikipedia through XRP. That is, coil makes a contribution to Wiki whenever user of coil visits wiki website. 1.Display Advertising- The biggest opportunity for Wikipedia is to place some banner ads throughout the site. The Link unit at bottom of first section and again at the bottom of articles and three standard add areas can keep the website clean yet fulfil the purpose of generating plenty of opportunities for revenue.

  1. Affliate Links- Another monetization opportunity comes in the form of affiliate links on article pages. Essentially, Wikipedia could begin directing visitors to relevant third-party merchant sites from their article pages. When these visitors become paying customers, Wikipedia would get an affiliate payment–a referral fee of sorts. For example, Amazon could be a well-known such merchant partner site.
  2. Lead Generation- Many pages on Wikipedia would be good fits for lead generation forms, allowing the site to collect contact information for visitors and sell it to vendors who might be able to sell them a relevant product or service. For example, Wikipedia’s page on car insurance could feature a widget that prompts visitors to enter their email and ZIP code for deals to see insurance rates. Wikipedia can then sell this information to insurance companies, who could then email plan information to that visitor.
  3. Email monetization
  4. Wikipedia store
  5. Wikipedia Premium are the other monetization techniques used by wikipedia.

Advantages- Wikipedia thus generates the revenue required, giving free information access with minimal adds as per the users' choice.

4.Twitch- Website Description- Twitch is the world's leading live streaming platform for gamers and the things we love. Twitch is a video live streaming service operated by Twitch Interactive, a subsidiary of Amazon.

The pay per view policy is followed. There are multiple options like Subscriptions, Ads, and bits. As coil members watch the stream, the amount to be paid to the website owner is kept track of.

Advantages- Users earn channel points while watching the stream or following them, etc.

5.Youtube- Website Description- Youtube is also an online video sharing platform.

Technology- Youtubers get money from two sources - advertisements and views. Video advertisers pay YouTube money, and YouTube gives a part of that to the Youtubers. Banner advertisers do the same thing - they pay YouTube money each time their ad is seen, and YouTube pays the owner of the video on that page part of the profit.Content creators on the internet are now able to accept payments in XRP tokens directly from their users. The tipping-for-content has become possible because of Coil. The pay per view policy is followed. As the user keeps viewing the video, the amount of money is kept track of.

Websites web monitezation. Below, I shortly want to outline five companies that are using coil s monetizing system to support their online presence. These are wikipedia.org, technology, Ushahidi.com and Coilexplore and my favourite, the beautiful blog contentme. from my home country Germany.

All these five companies have made use of the alternative payment method offered by the company coils. The Coil website states “ Our monetezation model offers an alternative to the status quo of paid advertisements and selling the public’s attention to the highest bidders – A solution that will serve the people who aren’t being served well today.” In other words, they are attempting to bridge the gap between the large company advertising for attention of the masses and the smaller blogger or writer that really intends to give quality content and thus has been overlooked by the harsh rules of online marketing.

The system they use is very simple. The companies sign up to be part of the Coils wallet programme and each time a person visits their website, they are being paid by Coil.

The benefit of such a form of advertising

The benefits are threefold.

For the creators of content, now as initially intended, quality is the most important driving force of their service, no more worrying about pleasing a generic algorithm.

In addition, the of the website visitor is respected as their data is not shared with other third party companies.

For the companies, that use Coil, they do not have to worry of embedding ads on their website, destroying their user experience in some sort of way.
