how can i use `hotReload`

$ npm run dev

Can i use hotReload ? I thought I could fix the hotMiddleware in the dev-server.js (hot: true)

var hotMiddleware = require('webpack-hot-middleware')(compiler, {
  hot: true, // not working
  log: false,
  heartbeat: 2000
})
