I'm going to add a Google Analytics gtag as a quick way to gather page visits/usage statistics. I'm trying to stay super-wary of any legal requirements related to the analytics angle, but from what I've seen so far, none of the data that's being collected should be throwing up any red flags.
I'll do a trial run with the Google Analytics for a few weeks, and if it's providing me with the information I'm looking for without issue, I'll keep it. Otherwise, I'll do some more investigation into other page visit/usage statistics tools.
It's important to note that tracking via Google Analytics won't work on users who are running certain adblocking software (i.e. myself, which led to a few minutes of debugging/confusion).
After a few weeks of testing, Google Analytics does not appear to be sufficient for tracking page views, presumably due to firewalling/adblocking. More research needs to be done to find something that can track page views without being blocked by anti-tracking tools.
It'd be nice to see (long-term) if this thing gains any traction down the road.
