greek and hebrew? #598

Hi guys, it would be very wonderful to have Greek NT and Hebrew OT/Tanach texts for GnomeSword! It is pretty difficult I guess... I just switched to Linux and I'm first trying to find Biblical Hebrew fonts if there is any. In M$ Win, there are many working Biblical Hebrew (like SBL Hebrew, SIL Ezra etc.) Unicode font sets (also Greek) available. It's a pity if there's none for Linux! :-(

Cheers

Hebrew & Greek fonts: http://scripts.sil.org/Gentium for Gentium and GentiumAlt fonts. Very pretty, very readable. You may also find Gentium available at e.g. Fedora mirrors as fonts-sil-gentium*.rpm.

Greek NT, Hebrew OT texts: There are a number of Sword-sanctioned modules that you can find by opening your Module Manager and going to Crosswire. Specifically, there exist...

Hebrew: Aleppo Codex, Westminster Leningrad Codex, Modern Hebrew Bible. Greek: Byzantine Majority, LXX, Textus Receptus, Tischendorf 8th ed., Westcott-Hort w/NA27+UBS4 variants. Find them under Hebrew and Greek,Ancient categories in the MM.

You can also find a newer, accented Tisch8th ("TischUP") if you define a new source in your Module Manager for ftp.kleinpaste.org in /pub/sword. And lastly, at that same repository you will find a custom 2-testament Greek Bible, consisting of LXX + TischUP in a single module.

A very nice, general font, that handles both Hebrew and Greek in a visually appealing way: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/7/Everything/i386/os/Fedora/linux-libertine-fonts-2.4.9-1.fc7.noarch.rpm
