2/15/2024 - Investigating options for better pedestrian entry to Croton Commons plaza (e.g., ramp or stairs); preparing conversation with property management gauge interest in pursuing options to make access more pedestrian-friendly – esp. in anticipation of new foot traffic from Katz Property housing. See related issue #95 .
Area options (see Fig. 1 below): A: As part of the Katz development, plan to have small “green” space at NW corner, installation of crosswalk through buffer island B: Investigating options for a proposed ramp/stairs providing safe pedestrian passage to Commons C: Pending sidewalk installation along Riverside by Mobil station D: Once sidewalk installed, DPW planning to replace corner ramp to make ADA compliant
At March 2024 meeting, Chair Matt Arnold reported that, according to DPW Foreman Scott Marsh, "Property management had explored adding sidewalk, stairs, etc. along Maple earlier, but faced challenges with the State, which owns property along Maple." I think that forecloses this idea.
Add a sidewalk so pedestrians can walk on Maple/129 directly from Municipal Place to the entrance of Croton Commons. Currently, pedestrians have no practical way to walk safely between the two despite their close proximity. Note that this would require a crosswalk across Municipal Place.
