Cleveland corridor repairs #54

Closed bloombar closed 3 years ago

bloombar commented 3 years ago

Description

Suggest a way to create a walkable/bikeable corridor along Cleveland Drive and neighboring streets to facilitate walking/biking to school and to serve as an example to similar projects. This involves filling in gaps in the sidewalk network, convincing homeowners to repair sidewalks in front of their houses through some kind of incentive program, ensuring crosswalks are present and respected, and patching hazards in the road surface for bikes.

Updates

19 May 2020 - BPC speaks with village engineer, who says that the department of public works is fully engaged with the Croton Point Avenue Project and likely will not be able to take on any additional sidewalk repairs. The village seems to generally be wary of enforcing sidewalk codes. The overall tone of the meeting is that we should not expect much from the village until Fall at the earliest.

3 April 2020 - BPC hears that the mayor believes the idea is a good one but needs backing of the board to enforce sidewalk rules. But the village is wary of putting any new expenditures into the budget, given coronavirus-related shortfalls.

14 February 2020 - the committee consolidates several maps into a single consolidated map showing problem sidewalks, roads, and other hazards across the village, including along Cleveland Dr.
