With the Katz property for sale to bidding developers, the committee asks the village to require addressing safety concerns for pedestrians on the block surrounding the property as part of bidding. Particularly, there are no sidewalks connecting the Katz property down Municipal Place towards Senasqua Park nor to the Croton Commons shopping just next door down Maple St, nor up further along Maple towards PVC; and the proposed driveway entrance location to the Katz property creates problems for pedestrians crossing Maple St at the existing crosswalk.
A map produced by the committee showing some of the pedestrian safety concerns is available here with some recommended solutions in the notes.
Updates
18 January 2023 - Mayor Pugh sent the current plans for the Katz property development showing sidewalk and crosswalk locations. The the plans do not include any continuation of sidewalk down Municipal Pl towards Riverside and Senasqua nor a crosswalk across along Maple to Municipal Pl nor a crosswalk across Maple to Van Wyck plaza. Download PDF of plans here: Pages from 41-51 Maple Street Site plan (8-16-22) showing sidewalk.pdf
20 June 2022 - Planning Board member Steven Krisky attended our committee meeting and mentioned that the committee's recommendations for improving safety on the Katz property had generally not been followed. There will be a sidewalk just in front of the property on Maple St, but there will be no new sidewalk down Municipal Place towards popular Senasqua Park and no way to cross the street down Maple to Croton Commons shopping. Generally, this means that the opportunity for improvement has been missed.
9 March 2021 - Committee member A.B. presented the committee's sidewalk improvement concepts to the Planning Board. They seemed receptive.
