On Oct. 24, 2022, Chairperson Matt Arnold sent the following email to the Board of Trustees:
Dear Mayor and Trustees:
I am pleased to inform you that the Croton-on-Harmon Bicycle-Pedestrian Committee has unanimously endorsed the proposal to lower the speed limit within village boundaries to a minimum 25 mph wherever it is not prohibited by state law.
We discussed the matter at our meetings of Sept. 28 and Oct. 19. Committee members said the move will spread the safety and quality of life benefits associated with lower speed limits throughout the village as well as make the speed limit more consistent for motorists.
We look forward to working with you further on this and other issues related to bicycle and pedestrian safety.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Matt Arnold Chair, Croton-on-Hudson Bicycle-Pedestrian Committee
Jan. 18, 2023: Trustee Simon told the committee that the village had hired a traffic consultant to perform the analysis required by the state in order to move forward. Results pending.
24 April 2023: new 25mph speed limit ratified by the Board of Trustees.
After the state changed the laws to allow localities to reduce speed limits on all non-state roads, Trustee Simon and Mayor Pugh asked the BPC if we recommend Croton taking action. After discussing the matter in a meeting, the committee agreed.
