Description

Add sidewalk on Cleveland Dr between Gerstein and Loconto/Hughes, a busy stretch with a blind curve where kids walking to/from CET and others frequently walk.

21 March 2023 - Committee officially requested this sidewalk

March 2023 - Trustee Simon said the mayor had asked Engineer Dan O’Connor for background on this idea and encouraged committee to add to master plan and email to trustees. Len said Engineer Dan O’Connor will hold field walk at site.

During Jan. 18, 2024, committee meeting, Len Simon said village has applied for a $1.4 million grant under the federal Transportation Alternatives Program which would:

1) add a sidewalk from Five Corners to the library along the library side of Cleveland;

2) add additional safety improvements to Five Corners;

3) add a sidewalk along the east side (CET-side) of Cleveland between Hughes and Gerstein.

Len said we will likely know in 3-5 months whether or not we got the grant.

Separately, DPW Scott Marsh said DPW has grant to repave Cleveland but must use it by end of 2024. That will likely mean having to repave the road first and then add a sidewalk second. That might result in some redundant work.

2/15/2024 - Reviewed drawings for proposed sidewalk installation (as prepared for TAP grant submission). Proposed sidewalk placement would establish a contiguous stretch from Benedict to Jacoby on east side of the street. Questions on rationale for sidewalk along cemetery in the proposal (DPW's SM to follow-up). Further zoom-in on fine-tuning options for Five Corners intersection and crosswalk placement. Committee member AB proposed using the opportunity to normalize crosswalk across Old Post Road South at Five Corners at the Veteran's memorial to cross in front of stop sign, instead of behind it. Work contingent on award of the TAP grant (decision expected within 3-5 months)
