Could we maybe check if we can get a newer mcl version working, so that we have one with working MacOS makefile? I recall @feidens having some problems with the newer versions. I guess it'll be unlikely though if the problem is with unsupported CPU instructions.

I'm the last person to argue against bumping versions.

That said: I'll merge this tomorrow no matter what. Slightly tired of delaying releases for future features. This won't be our last release, no reason to wait.

Let me know if Fabian or I should test something. What version would you like to use? If there are issues with unsupported CPU instructions, we should report them to mcl upstream or live with the incompatibility.
