Hi Weisser Zwerg,
Thanks much for your interesting Odroid M1 article!
I see you were in luck, because I received mine yesterday (November 3rd, 2022) and it was much more expensive! However, you might have obtained yours directly from Hardkernel in Southern Korea, which is cheaper but adding import taxes. FYI: You can also buy Odroids and accessories at www.pollin.de or www.antarek.de .
Forum support: I am sorry, that it didn't work for you! Especially the forum and the wiki.hardkernel.com are great sources of invaluable info. I'm a member since my 1st Odroid, that was an Odroid-X3 and the forum is very(!) active.
You might check your spam folder for responses to your membership request. I've just seen yesterday new members joining, so functionality should be provided.
Performance of the Odroids versus the Raspi depends on its architecture and if it is a low profile arch or a fully blown one. Designs like e.g. the HC2 or HC4 are dedicated to file operations of course and along with their SATA ports allow great things a RASPI can't provide. Bottom line, you have to choose what you want for your next project.
In case of the M1 I was looking for a low power mode machine waiting 24x7 for requests from the LAN and being capable to fire-up and have high speed SATA access. The M.2 I liked and hope that performance figures of my Samsung EVO can be matched. I don't need BTLE and I am happy with the 1Gbit/s ETH port. On top the blue case is great, just the SATA adapter was not on stock anymore.
On the Hardkernel site, you can also find the Magazine. - Unfortunately, it got discontinued after CoV came up and I hope the Odroid Magazine will be reinvoked.
Please try again to join the forum, as there are great, knowledgable people from all over the globe and a great source to become a Linux geek yourself. I am sitting in southern Germany and have a big zoo of Odroids all over my house and office.
Would be great, meeting you in person one day!
Lötlümmel!
@LoetLuemmel : thanks for encouraging me to try to sign up again. It worked now. I guess there was something wrong with the forum in the past, because I checked all folders including spam. My ODROID M1 is working reliably day in and day out and I am quite happy with it. I use it for a dockerized Home Assistant set-up. I've written another blog post about it. Thanks again for the hint to try again!
Thanks for your feedback and I am really glad that you could finally join the Odroid forum.
By chance, please drop me a link to your new article.
By now I have two M1s up and running. Biggest problem is finding matching ARM64 containers. After two weeks of fighting to get Rocktchat active, I found notice that Meteor is still missing for ARM. …but we‘re getting there!
Enjoy M1 and the forum! -Pit
