Upon continuing play, the next turn, Monument remains in the hand: image

Tried it again, and now I have more details: The Game history contains the message "so and so played a monument" however, the points don't increase, and the monument doesn't go away at all. No need to wait for next turn. It does count as your one dev card per turn, though, as it disables all the other dev cards.
